I did the radiator support in satin black for something a little different (uc's are usually body coloured) but it breaks up the green a bit and I really didn't want green poking through the grille so much.
By the way, that's not a chip on the front of the fender, my iPhone is fairly haggerty and the camera lens has dirt or a chip so all my photos from my phone has that bit of crap in that spot haha.

Sounds like you're having some ups and downs but it's coming together awesome! Neat touches on the satin black behind the grill etc. Those things make a big difference IMO

Progress been a bit slow.. Sorta taking a sanity break from the hatch and spending time on my Spanish red UC sedan.
Anyway very slowly cutting and buffing sections with bad orange peel and runs.
The pass quarter had alot of runs. I used a combination of the fine filler trick and run razor, and got them nice and level, then finished with a machine polish. Happy with the results.
The roof had alot of trash in the finish, and a couple of spots of dry spray, and I managed to flatten that out and buffed it up to a nice finish.
Both doors (including the window frames) were very peely. But there is a lot of material to work with, and managed to get them to an acceptable finish.
And last was the hatch lid. I got the skin looking very smooth. Just got to do the window frame and hand buff that as I'm too scared to use the machine buffer there. Edge burn city.
Mind you, this is only colour sanded and buffed. I haven't applied any glazes or waxes yet.
Also started putting the moulds on.
That's all for now

You are so talented you really annoy me (in the nicest possible way. ) Keep at it but remember to stop and smell the roses from time to time. Doing home renos, shed building, concrete busting, family pressures all take their toll. I know you guys are a lot younger than me but you need to look after yourselves. I remember when I built my houseboat I used the analogy of climbing Mt Everest. Don't look at the summit and say it's too far away, keep your eyes down, take one step at a time (enjoy those steps) and before you know it, the summit will be in reach.
Thus ends the lesson from Grandpa brickus.

It's not a UCANG update without a massive screw up that causes progress to go backwards.. But then the momentum carries on and things end up better.
So I revisited the car, about about a 6 month hiatus (or thereabouts). Kept drilling and riveting to get these chrome trims on. Lovely.. Or so I thought. This d^ckhead installed the chrome trim in the middle of the door frame rather than right up the top to frame the doors and windows. Me being me, this fubar kept eating at me so i decided to rectify the problem (just for a couple of millimeters!). Even bigger problem was... I have a freshly painted car! How was I gonna fix this without overheating the surrounding metal causing paint blistering, or sparks and spatter hitting elsewhere causing a repaint?
Finesse was the key. Forward thinking. Pro activeness. Wet sheets lol
So I got out the drill, re drilled the holes for new rivets (awesome, now the holes will get painted in too - bonus). And grabbed my 3" air grinder, carefully removed the paint, welded up the holes, and smoothed out repairs. After everything was scuffed, masked, splash of primer and a coat of paint, I feel much better with the end result.
Have a look at the pics
It was the perfect opportunity for me to get off my ass and put the blackouts on.

A long time away still undecided.. I got many questions and researching to do.
She needs to be a manual V8 and not after big horesepower
Was going 308 with m20/21 for ease of conversion, and they are at home inside a Torana
350 crate more cost effective than rebuilding a 308 I hear
I want to avoid heavy tunnel mods
I thought T5's were huge boxes
What other manuals can mate to a 350?
I hear Muncies and TKO's are huge money. Is the cost effective crate motor no longer due to the price of these gearboxes?
304's are another consideration (not EFI though)
blah blah blah... best off to ignore it for now

Looking good mate!
Bit of pain with the holes but it turned out nice in the end.
Muncie's aren't that dear.... I know where there is a rebuilt one sitting on a shed floor doing nothing... Like the rest of the bits that came out of the same car.
Even 304's are cheap as chips for a running engine.

Can do. just a different bell housing to the one I have or a re-drill of the bolt pattern on the back of the block. All easy stuff.

personally i wouldnt piss around with the old 5L anymore, you can buy a running LS1 and 6speed with wiring harness for under $4k
it depends how in depth you want to take a conversion as to how much you spend also, i know of a few guys that have gone the LS path in old holdens and have had turn key running and driving for 5k thats them swinging spanners and fiddling about but it can be done cheap, the LS cant be beaten dollar to power... saying that you put a turbo on the side of one and its all turns to a pile of unreliable shit pretty fast.
each to their own i used to be anti LS until i seen how many people are running them for way less than a 355 combo and have the reliablility that a stout holden motor doesnt have. i still love my 355 setup in the hatch n wont be changing it any time soon.
ive done my homework for the LH I am soon to start building and i know what engine/box combo ill be running
End of the day its your car, build it for you and no one else.
what ever you do it will be top notch

Yeah but you're a mechanic extraordinaire!! All easy for you
I just want a sort of simple conversion.
I'll probably go the carby 304 route with a cable manual box. Hopefully with as minimal tunnel mods as possible

Not a bad idea at all. Re: the diff, I have been keeping my eye on R31's for wrecking so I can grab a diff out of them bastards.

304 with a carb setup would be mint if you didnt wanna muck around with electrics for sure.
drop a 286 in and a 650 carb should skid up pretty well.
then you'll be going all high rise manifolds, reverse cowl scoops n shit! yeew
