Any car with an offset steering wheel angle.....................................................

You forgot to finish your sentence Woodsy, I'll do it for you.....

.....is awesome and does not belong on this list :D

You seriously don't notice it when you're driving.

But that could just be me because when I go around corners I'm more worried about whether the Trimatic will stay engaged or not.

The trannie fluid doesn't do as good a job when its on the garage floor :blink2:

No they weren't, they were a bit of a joke back then , a bit like a Niki or a Mighty Boy.

XU2 actually did exist. It is the option code for the special vehicle package otherwise known as SLR5000. XU2=SLR5000 like XX7=Sandman and XV2=HQ SS.

XU2 for LH was only a Styling thing, never a option code for SLR5000, Holden stayed away from the XU Name-Due to the 1972 Supercar Scare, the Pics of LH with XU2 Decals were Styling Mock ups.
XU3 is Heavy Duty Suspension option on Utes and Panel Vans (it is not the XX7=Sandman)

Really? I think you'd better check again.

XU2 is the option code for SLR5000 in LH and LX. All special vehicle packages had an option code. SLR5000 is a name. XU2 is an option code.

XU3 has zero to do with heavy duty suspension on utes and panel vans. That is option code F72 (gross load package) that got you 1-tonner springs when specified on a ute or van.

As stated before, XU3 = NEUTRAL HEADLINING in HG, LC, HQ and LJ.

Again as stated before, around 5/1975 XU3 appeared in features manuals as the Sandman special vehicle package, but wasn't used on cars until 10/75. From Sandman release in early 1974 to 10/75 XX7 was the code for the Sandman package, after that it was XU3. Around 10/75 XX7 was re-assigned to a new special vehicle package which was the same as XU3 except passenger tyres were fitted.

LC, LJ

There a guy in Burnie named Rolly Gray
He owns a LJ GTR and he has his Broadcast Sheet and on the sheet it had XU3, Holden told rolly that XU3 was heavy duty suspension for panal vans and utes and the XU3 on his broadcast sheet was a mistake ???????

He was mislead. HG and LC ordering procedures are quite clear on XU3, as is HQ. On LC you couldn't order XU3 on a GTR but this must have changed for LJ.

and i thought the option XU2 was for Bedford Vans :stirpot: and not LH 5000

It was originally, but was rescued for the LH. SLR5000 was meant to have XU2 decals, but it was these that were replaced by SLR5000 after the V8 XU1 was cancelled. The option code was kept.

Here you go. Here is a cut and paste from the HG (inc LC) ordering procedure. Couldn't get it to paste around the right way.

Well the H started the XU2 thing on the V8 LJ, he assumed that GMH would of named it, but at cancellation the name for the V8 LJ was not finalised, so we will never know for sure

My vote goes to anything from the VW/Audi group. Complete piles of shit from new, awful to work on and cost an absolute mint to maintain. I hate them with everything inside me.

Ford Focus are just plain horrible and should never have been imported here. Absolute joke of a car too.

As much as people bag them, Commodores/Falcons are really not bad compared to most Euro offerings. Sure they're 10 years behind the rest of the world in terms of technology but at least your average joe can diagnose and repair one and parts are cheap and easy to find.

VE Commodore.

Cheers.

Are you saying this purely based on one test drive? Yep, thought so.

I actually had the pleasure of fitting a new crate motor to a VE SIDI this week and I have to say its one of the better thought out setups Ive seem in terms of ease of assembly/maintenance. Took less than 2 hours to remove the whole running gear from the car. Easy as pie. All new cars are getting more complex, I just wish every other manufacturer made them this easy to work on.

That the one where you had to get out of the car and change the direction the engine turned to get reverse? And then had all forward gears but the car moved the other way?

Actually, they aren't. The VE is up there with anything else that is in the same price structure.

I've driven all model commodores, there is nothing wrong with the VE as a car afew lemons like any make and model though, depends what you like and look for in a car. Cars are to refined now, i like feedback through the wheel and clutch pedals.

I have to second the focus, one of the worst cars i have driven while working at Ford and what the hell is with cars reverse parking themselves now..... COME ON!!!!!!!
