next update isnt to far away, just tidying up some places in the engiine bay ( yes im still in there too ) i dont think i will do a smooth bay again or if i do i know i will go about it a different way thats for sure. once im done i can send it off to have the custom boot floor done while i start on the hanging panels.
How did you go with that rust at the base of the A-Pillar, what I like to call the water collection, rust explosion section lol.
Your doing a fantasic job Liam! Geez your car must of had a tough life with all that rust and dodgy repairs!

it isnt as bad as i thought and i dont have to remove the top cover section at the base that meets up with the plenuim cover. i still have to open it up abit but will do it with either the dremil or die grinder just enough till i find clean metal. the hardest bit will be getting the top section sitting right as its a double layer. Its right on the edge where the plenium cover sits and if the new piece is sitting high then the cover will stand out like dogs nads.
Lee you are preaching to the converted on this section to be repaired lol, it is nothing but excess and craziness. The base of the A Pillar was relatively easy to replicate, its the bit on top that meets the gutter channel and sits on top of the pillar that requires the most attention to detail. If I find it easy enough, I should make a few and flick them through to whoever needs one.
I am still glad I took the plenum cover off because there was some rust pitting all the way along the cover near the spot welds at the front, and some up near the spot welds on the windscreen channel on either side as well, and well you saw mine... Wouldn't have seen if I didn't rip it off, now it wont bother me for 25 years or so.

Mine is non existent so I have to manufacture mine, out of one piece, I have 1mm (well .95mm Zincanneal). I don't see 1.6 being a problem, just depends on how you bend it, shrink/stretch it.

Made a piece to go from the guard to the A pillar for the hanging 1/4 to bolt to. (Did that even make sense?)

Welded it on.

Hung the 1/4 to see how it sits, I also had to trim the 1/4 as the curve was not continuous.
This is the result of the trim.

Nice even panel gap too...

AND the panel crease lines up too which is magnificent lol.

I then used this cardboard template to make the hard bit.

Metal cut out. Folded into shape and then caressed (manhandled/snipped/bashed/folded) into place. Didn't turn out as bad as I thought it would... Ignore the gaps and creases I can fix that.

So that's it today, tack it on tomorrow and start the other side, hopefully will be pretty straightforward... Can't do anymore today cos I have to study for my trade certificate exam on Wednesday. Hope you enjoy it.

Try not to stress to much about the theroy as most of the people that word the exams like to use big flash words instead of everyday type of talk. It would also help if they used words that are used on site

I my self suffered when it came to Theroy even at school but when it came to the prac side it was like a walk in the park. When i did my Scaffolder/Rigger tickets i suffered a bit in the theroy as im pretty shocking at Maths but i got through " just " i think what made it that bit easyer for me is that i was scaffolding/Rigging for about 4 yrs before i sat for my tickets.

what a blowout, my old man was a cable joiner for about 27yrs. He worked for ICC ( Illawarra County council ) but they are now called Intergral Energy.

Your old boy would be the good old Paper-Lead Jointer. That shit is cool to work with, and can be a work of art. I can only work on XLPE (Cross linked polyethylene), but can do a transition joint from Lead to XLPE. Paper Lead Jointers are worth every dollar they earn it is long and tedious work and you constantly in shitty conditions...
I'm going to have words with my trainer to make sure I pass this time lol.
I used to do rigger/dogging for 18 months before I started this apprenticeship. Loved it, but no career in a sub contractor.

Did your old boy enjoy it? I'd hazard a guess he'd have a shocking back nowadays? From all the years of crouching over a hole.

I'm glad you opted for steel rather than cardboard. Cardboard wouldn't have lasted I don't reckon.
Haha, but cardboard is so much easier...

The Paper lead has a bitumen covering on the lead sheath... You have heat it up with a gas torch so it is bloody hot, then use a rag and kero to wipe it off... I must have burnt my hands countless times when the bitumen sticks to your fingers. lol.

he must have liked it as he did it for so many yrs lol and he still scratches around in the garden and what not and have never herd of him say anything about a sore back, maybe the beer masks the pain
