Aussie diffs do a really good job

$395 to swap the brakets over
think 100 each to redrill axels to HQ pattern

all up it cost me 660 with GST and they threw in a set of 3.08 gears

then you also have to get your tail shaft modded

The lokka can be installed in a 25 or 28 spline B/W diff, with or without an L.S.D.

OK, lets try get this right in the one post.

Nissan Skyline R31 has a 28 spline B/W diff almost the same width ( within a couple of mm ) as an LH - UC diff. They come with either 3.70:1 or 3.90:1 gears and as an open centre or L.S.D.

One question, what year/s were these cars equipped in this manner?

Lokka can only be installed in an open diff centre...not a LSD centre...it wont fit. Thats what we are referring to,the carrier...not the diff housing..when actually finally fitted tothe carrier...it will fit in any B/W housing.

R31 Skyline

Theres the model... all the years it was made (about 86-90)

The only ones to get the LSD were usually the GTS/Silhoette

Pintara diff is weaker at 25 spline but had a 4.11 option ... though noisy

has anyone done this skyline diff conversion and running commodore stud patturn, as I am curious as to how the commodore wheels would go as I plan to run 16" wheels that had come of a vr, appear to be 7" wide by the stamping inside the rim, what worries me is the difference in offset between the new and the old wheels. I would assume that I would need a diff that is substantilly wider than the current one to compensate

I believe Yella has a Commodore diff in his Torana race car that he is building.
There is a thread..........................somewhere :D

Without doing a search, using Commodore rims ( +43 ) on the Skyline diff in the back of an LH - UC Torana will reduce the track by about 20mm. Using VG ute rims ( +37 ) will leave the rear track close to the GMH spec. At worst, my calcs would be out by a few mm.

chopper, are you saying re-drill the skyline brakes to commodore stud pattern and then put the commo wheels on or use commo axles and brakes ? im thinking the commo brakes would make the figures bigger ?

I'm not saying to do either. The question was asked about the rear track if Commodore rims were used on a Skyline diff which was adapted to be used in an LH - UC Torana. Whatever method is used, the track change will be the same. The distance from the bolt up face on the diff to the outside edge of the axle flange is the same no matter which B/W axle is used. Also, the Commodore and Skyline rear discs are the same thickness where they bolt up to the axle. This means the distance from disc to disc will be the same whether you use Commodore or Skyline discs or axles.

I personally wouldn't use an axle that has been welded. Other people are more than hapy to use them.

thanks heaps chopper, so your saying the wheels I have on a skyline diff will sit 10mm each side(20mm less width in the track) inward from where the old hotwires were?(7" wide also)

Please post exactly what wheels you have ( including offset if you know ) and I shall do a search to try and get exact track measurements for you.

ahh, now this is when I make it hard for you, the manufacturer or brand of wheel is unknown but they appear to be a knock off VT SS or HSV wheel, there are several stampings on the inside of the wheel

PCD 5X120 - I assume is the stud patturn
7JJX16H2 - width diameter, and 2??
ET38 - could this be the offset?

they came off a VR pov pack and doesnt even have a brand name on the center caps

If this is still useless info I could always go see the local bob jane to see if they know

and thanks for the effort mate

Assumi9ng the diff width figures I've been given are correct using the rims quoted above, rear track will be about 1/2" wider than stock. This is assuming the R31 Skyline diff is 1460mm disc to disc.

Interesting thread. Can anyone recommend a diff guru in Sydney to do one of these conversions into a UC. I tried some 'reputable' diff specialist, but they tell me that they wont touch a UC conversion due to welding on the cast iron housing??
